Costs

How much does it cost to run infrared heating in a church?

A typical parish church using infrared heating for one main service a week plus occasional midweek use can expect annual running costs of roughly £1,500 to £4,000. The range depends on the size of the building, the number of heaters, local electricity tariffs and how many hours the heating runs.

Infrared running costs are often lower than you would expect from the electricity unit price alone. Because infrared warms people and surfaces rather than heating the entire air volume, the system runs for fewer hours. A church that pre-heats with convection for two or three hours before a service might switch on infrared heaters fifteen minutes before and achieve the same level of comfort with a fraction of the energy.

The figures above assume standard electricity tariffs. If your church can access a time-of-use tariff or generate some of its own electricity from solar panels, running costs drop further.
